Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inaugurated a modern 17.5-meter footbridge at GS Road, Paltan Bazar, in a bid to facilitate pedestrian convenience.
Taking to X, CM Sarma wrote, “To ease pedestrian movement in the crucial Paltan Bazar Junction in Guwahati, I dedicated a Foot Overbridge on New Year’s Day.”

The new facility boasts a range of advanced features designed to enhance inclusivity and convenience for pedestrians.
The new footbridge incorporates several advanced features to enhance accessibility and safety. These include a lift for persons with disabilities, ensuring inclusivity for all users.
An escalator is provided for the convenience of women and senior citizens, facilitating hassle-free access.
Furthermore, an advanced drainage system has been incorporated to prevent waterlogging during rainy seasons.
Finally, a dedicated safety room is available on the bridge to provide emergency assistance and ensure the security of pedestrians.
This new footbridge is anticipated to significantly improve traffic flow on GS Road and offer pedestrians a safe and convenient passage through the busy Paltan Bazar area.
He said, “To ensure ease of travel to and from the capital city, I am dedicating a Mini ISBT in Khanapara.”

The chief minister said that an additional 56 electric buses will be added to the existing fleet to realize the vision of a pollution-free public transport fleet.
