Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will embark on a two-day trip to Singapore to promote the state’s industrial potential and attract investment in cutting-edge technology sectors.

The visit is a part of Assam’s broader strategy to enhance its industrial footprint ahead of the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit later this month.

“I will be in Singapore starting tomorrow for two days to promote Advantage Assam and highlight the state’s growing potential in key sectors such as semiconductors, deep technology, infrastructure, and manufacturing,” Sarma announced on social media.

The visit comes just ahead of the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, set for February 25-26, which will be graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the chief guest.

Assam’s government has ambitious plans for the state, including a target to generate 3,000 MW of renewable energy by 2030.

In recent weeks, Sarma has held strategic meetings with top industry leaders.

During his visit to Mumbai, he engaged with JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal, Welspun World Chairman BK Goenka, and Essar Group Vice Chairman Ravi Ruia.

These discussions centered on investment opportunities across multiple sectors, from infrastructure development to electric vehicle manufacturing.

“We will also host a roadshow and conduct one-on-one meetings with industry leaders during my Singapore visit to explore potential collaborations and investment avenues,” Sarma stated.

He emphasised his vision of positioning Assam as an “emerging hub for advanced industries and innovation.”

Additionally, the Assam government has launched the Assam Startup and Innovation Policy, which aims to support the creation of 5,000 startups and generate 100,000 jobs over the next five years.

This initiative aligns with the state’s ongoing efforts to attract investments in green energy, including projects focused on floating solar energy, bio-CNG, green hydrogen, and ATJ fuel.

Welspun World has shown interest in diversifying into textiles, energy, and water treatment projects in Assam, while Essar Group is looking at manufacturing electric trucks and pursuing renewable energy projects in the region.
