Guwahati: In a bid to enhance government’s accountability, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday inaugurated the Assam State Commission for Right to Public Services.
The event also saw the launch of a comprehensive manual detailing the appeal process for public service rights and the Commission’s official website.
The commission aims to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of public services.
During the event, CM Sarma stressed the importance of technology in promoting transparency and accountability. Right to Public Service will catapult Assam into a model for good governance, he said.
CM Sarma asserted that good governance is contingent upon citizens awareness of their rights. He underscored the government’s responsibility to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of services, emphasizing the substantial benefits that citizens can derive from this initiative.
He highlighted the state government’s commitment to empowering citizens by making them aware of their rights and the services they are entitled to.
Dr. Sujoy Lal Thaosen, a retired IPS officer, has been appointed as the Chief Commissioner of the Commission. Ranjan Kumar Chakraborty and Bimal C. Oswal have been appointed as members.
The chief minister urged government officials to proactively implement these reforms and raise public awareness about the Commission.
He further stated that empowering citizens with their rights could position Assam as a model for good governance.

He expressed confidence that the Commission would play a crucial role in transforming public service delivery in Assam.
