Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to develop an app that allows citizens to report potholes by uploading photographs.
The app, anticipated to launch later this year, is initially planned to cover five major cities within the state, including Guwahati.
Chief Minister Sarma, during a recent Facebook Live session, announced the forthcoming development of a mobile application.
“This application will enable citizens to directly report instances of deteriorated road infrastructure to the Public Works Department (PWD), thereby facilitating more efficient and responsive road maintenance,” he said.
Sarma stated that this initiative will facilitate the expeditious implementation of road repair measures.
He said initially the services will be limited to five cities — Guwahati, Tezpur, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, and Silchar.
The chief minister appealed to the citizens to send photographs, along with coordinates of the location, so that the PWD could repair them within a short span of time.
The mobile application is set to be launched in April or March of this year.
The Chief Minister also revealed plans to expand the operation of the mobile application to other areas in due time.
“I have directed the officials to initially develop the app, within the next two months, for the five cities,” Sarma said.
While expressing satisfaction over the reduced number of road accidents between January 1 and 10 compared to the previous year, Sarma issued a stern warning against drunk driving.

Sarma stated that 92 people lost their lives in road accidents in Assam from January 1 to 10 in 2024, whereas this year the number had decreased to 74 due to the government’s ongoing efforts. He humbly requested that everyone refrain from drunk driving during the Bihu festivities.
