Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the results of the sixth edition of Gunotsav 2025 on Thursday, revealing that 13,300 schools have achieved the coveted ‘A+’ grade, while 19,952 schools have been ranked ‘A’.
During his announcement, Sarma highlighted the state’s unwavering commitment to public education, noting that Assam’s per-student investment and the number of government schools far exceed those of Tamil Nadu.
“Our dedication to improving education is among the strongest in the nation,” he stated.
The chief minister further emphasised that Gunotsav plays a crucial role in elevating the quality of school education by assessing students’ learning levels, identifying infrastructural gaps, and implementing corrective actions where needed.
“This unique citizen-driven initiative, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s work during his tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, has now entered its sixth edition in Assam,” Sarma remarked.
Gunotsav, which began with just 12,000 schools in 2017, has now expanded to cover 44,077 schools across the state.
In 2025, 27,252 schools received ‘A+’ or ‘A’ grades, marking a 7% improvement over the previous year.
“An impressive 83.5% of schools have been ranked in the A+ and A categories, demonstrating the effectiveness of our robust systems and quality standards to ensure the best education for our children,” Sarma added.
To reward outstanding performance, the state government has provided a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 to each ‘A+’ school.
Sarma expressed confidence that these results would continue to improve in the future. In total, 4,243 schools were graded ‘B’, 891 were ranked ‘C’, and 218 schools were assigned a ‘D’ grade.
Among the evaluated students, 14,64,808 (37.57%) received ‘A+’ grades, while 2,46,032 (6.31%) students were rated ‘D’.
Additionally, 7,846 schools have maintained ‘A+’ grades for two consecutive years, covering both Gunotsav 2024 and 2025.
For the fourth consecutive year, Sivasagar topped the rankings, followed by Golaghat in second place and Dibrugarh in third.
A new evaluation parameter this year assessed the quality of student uniforms, with Sivasagar emerging as the leader, followed by Majuli and Charaideo.
In terms of transparency and fairness, Golaghat secured the top spot, while Kamrup (Metro) and Jorhat ranked second and third, respectively.
The Gunotsav 2025 evaluations took place in three phases from January 6 to February 7, 2025, covering 44,077 schools and assessing 38,98,945 students (98.33%).
A total of 17,585 external evaluators participated in this extensive exercise, including MPs, MLAs, senior IAS, IPS, and IFS officers, as well as Class I and II officers from the state government.
Recognizing the importance of Gunotsav, since 2023, 10% of students’ annual examination marks have been based on their Gunotsav performance.
In another initiative, 4,320 students in Class 10 received tablets under the Arohan Scheme for the 2024-25 academic year to support their academic progress and career development.
These students will also receive training on using the tablets to access digital educational resources, such as the DIKSHA portal, Khan Academy, and E-Kaksha e-content.
