Barpeta: The annual Class 9 English examination scheduled for Thursday in Barpeta district was abruptly cancelled following the circulation of the question paper on social media, officials confirmed.
The cancellation was announced by Ratul Kumar Das, the Barpeta Inspector of Schools, who issued an official order informing all school heads in the district.
The notice stated that the examination had been postponed due to “unavoidable circumstances,” with a new date to be announced later.
According to a member of the district-level internal examination committee, the leak came to their attention on Wednesday evening.
“Preliminary information suggests that the question paper was shared on social media platforms. We are investigating the claims to identify the source of the leak,” the official said.
Das emphasised that the decision to cancel the exam was made to uphold the integrity of the examination process.

“Fairness is our top priority, and we cannot allow compromised exams to proceed. A thorough verification is underway to prevent such incidents in the future,” he added.

Local authorities have assured the public that they are taking steps to ensure the security of question papers and safeguard the credibility of future examinations.
