Guwahati: Dr. Ravi Kota, Chief Secretary of Assam, on Saturday reviewed the progress of the construction work and designs of the upcoming 5,000-seat public auditorium at Khanapara in Guwahati.

Kota chaired a meeting with the architects to review the exterior facade and interior designs of the public auditorium, a visionary project initiated by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The construction of this state-of-the-art auditorium, valued at Rs 174.88 crore, has been awarded to Ahluwalia Contracts Ltd., a New Delhi-based construction firm.

Upon completion, it will be the largest public auditorium in the entire Northeast India.

Kota said, “The state government committee has carefully assessed various design options and reviewed progress of the construction work. We are aiming to complete this project by April 2025.”

He further added, “Once completed, this auditorium will be a new landmark, offering a vibrant urban space for the people of Guwahati and Assam.”

The largest convention centre is expected to be a prime venue for major national and international events.

During a site visit last month, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed optimism that the ongoing construction project would attract global attention.

CM Sarma said, “We want to establish Guwahati as the preferred venue for national and international exhibitions. Assam is building one of Eastern India’s largest convention centres with a 5,000 seating capacity. This should be ready by early 2025.”
