Guwahati: Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota’s tenure has been extended by six months, according to an official order.
In a notification issued by the Personnel Department, Kota’s service has been extended for a period of six months from May 1 to October 31.
The notification issued by the Department of Personnel says, “In pursuance of approval of the Government of India, Department of Personnel & Training, New Delhi and in the interest of public service, the services of Dr Ravi Kota, IAS (RR:1993), Chief Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, is extended for a period of 06 (six) months beyond the date of his superannuation, i.e., from 01/05/2026 to 31/10/2026.”
A 1993-batch IAS officer, Kota was due to retire on April 30 and has been serving as the Chief Secretary of Assam since April 1, 2024. He replaced Paban Kumar Borthakur who had retired on March 31, 2024.

He was appointed as the Chief Secretary on January 17, 2024 to the Government of Assam, superseding at least three IAS officers.
The extension comes ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in the state, which are expected to be held across 126 constituencies in March–April this year.
