Guwahati: A portion of a false ceiling inside a PVR cinema hall in a shopping mall in Guwahati collapsed on Sunday evening, injuring three people during a movie screening. The incident caused widespread panic among the audience.
The incident occurred on Sunday during the screening of the movie ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ at City Centre Mall in Guwahati around 7 PM.
According to eyewitnesses, a section of the overhead structure suddenly fell, and the debris scattered everywhere. People screamed and rushed toward the exits, trying to escape the theatre as quickly as possible.
As per reports, the cinema staff stopped the screening and assisted in evacuating the audience. The mall management also joined the evacuation efforts.
First responders and medical personnel arrived swiftly at the scene to provide aid to the injured. The affected individuals were promptly moved to nearby hospitals, and their conditions are reported to be stable.
Authorities have temporarily closed the cinema hall for inspection, and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the structural failure.
An official statement has not yet been issued by either mall management or PVR officials.
However, the accident has raised major concerns about the safety standards maintained in the cinema halls.

Meanwhile, Guwahati Police are currently investigating the matter. “We have taken note of the incident and will look into whether proper safety measures were followed. Action will be taken if any negligence is found,” said a police official.
