GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet on Friday approved the Land & Space Lease Management Policy, 2024 with an aim to promote the state as a preferred destination for Information Technology Parks and Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMCs).
The policy aims to transform the state into a leading hub for IT and electronics manufacturing.
This new policy is designed to attract investors by providing a clear framework for leasing land and built-up spaces at IT Parks and EMCs in Assam.
The policy will apply to all lands and built-up spaces managed by the Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited (AMTRON).
According to the Cabinet, the policy has the potential to transform the employment landscape of Assam. The policy will support Tech City projects in generating 8,000 direct employment opportunities and more than 100,000 indirect jobs.
The State Cabinet also approved the inclusion of 19 villages into the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) as part of the 2020 Bodo Accord.
This decision marks a key step in fulfilling the commitments outlined in the Bodo Accord. The decision to incorporate these villages into the BTR aligns with the broader goals of the 2020 Bodo Accord.
The Assam Cabinet also took steps to provide relief to small traders by approving a report from a sub-committee on GST-related issues.

This resolution will allow for the rectification of thousands of pending cases from 2017 to 2022, aiming to resolve these matters within three months and reduce the burden on taxpayers.
Furthermore, the Cabinet approved amendments to the Moran Autonomous Council Act, 2020, and the Matak Autonomous Council Act, 2020, increasing the number of constituencies in both councils from 22 to 27.
Lastly, in an effort to improve educational outcomes in the state, the Assam Cabinet sanctioned the recruitment of 1,766 Graduate Mathematics Teachers for provincialized and government schools.
