Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet on Tuesday approved consideration of three percent reservation for Tea Tribes and Adivasi communities in Class I and Class II state government jobs.
This was announced by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma following the state cabinet meeting held in Guwahati earlier today.
The Tea Tribes and Adivasi communities will now get reservation benefits in higher-level government services, in addition to the existing quota in Class III and IV posts.
In other key decisions, the cabinet has approved the release of entrepreneurship seed capital to another 1,07,532 eligible members of women’s self-help groups under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan (MMUA), boosting women’s economic empowerment.

Further, the cabinet has approved raising the earned leave entitlement of teachers under the Department of School Education to 15 days per year and amendment of the Assam Revised Leave Rules, 1934, to provide 10 days in lieu of half-pay leave and an additional five days of earned leave.
In a bid to strengthen heritage infrastructure, the cabinet has approved 19.59 crore for the construction of Integrated Development of Borbheti Campus in Jorhat to promote sustainable and heritage-based tourism.
In another key decision for infrastructure development, the cabinet approved settlement of government land in Dhemaji district for sports infrastructure development.
In addition, the cabinet has approved revised administrative approval of Rs 335.87 crore for construction of Sainik School at Langvoku in Karbi Anglong.
Additionally, the cabinet also approved the settlement of Government Khas and Ceiling Surplus land for homestead purposes to 319 indigenous, landless families across 10 districts under Sewa Setu, Mission Basundhara 2.0 review and Basundhara portal services.
