Guwahati: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday launched a statewide wall-writing campaign as part of its preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections, expected to be held in March–April.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP president Dilip Saikia formally inaugurated the campaign in Guwahati. Party leaders and workers are set to carry out similar activities simultaneously across districts in the coming days.
After painting the party’s symbol, the lotus, on a wall in the city, Sarma said the campaign would be completed across the state within a fixed timeframe. He said prior permission would be sought from wall owners before painting the lotus symbol along with party slogans.
“By seeking permission, we will be able to enhance our mass outreach. Through the slogans, we will highlight the work done by the BJP-led governments in Assam over the past five to ten years, while also reflecting the party’s ideology,” the chief minister said.
Apart from Saikia, Sarma was joined at the launch by state election management committee convener Pradan Baruah, Dispur MLA Akon Bora, and other party leaders.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also took part in the wall-writing campaign in Dibrugarh.
