GUWAHATI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is prepared for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Assam and has curated a candidates’ list featuring a mix of experienced names and first-timers.
While the official announcement of candidates is yet to be made, reports in local press reveal a lineup of formidable contenders vying to represent their respective constituencies.
The list reportedly features a slew of notable figures including Bijuli Kalita Medhi for Guwahati, Sarbananda Sonowal for Dibrugarh, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa for Kaziranga, Tapan Gogoi for Jorhat, Ranjit Dutta for Tezpur, Dilip Saikia for Darang-Udalguri, Kripanath Mallah for Karimganj, Parimal Suklabaidya for Silchar, Suresh Bora for Nagaon, Pradan Barua for Lakhimpur, and Amar Singh Tiso for Diphu.
In a strategic move, the BJP is set to contest 11 out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam, leaving two seats for its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), and one for the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) in Kokrajhar.

Expressing confidence in the party’s electoral prospects, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal affirmed on February 29, the BJP’s assurance of securing a decisive victory in 11 constituencies while remaining ambitious about clinching the 12th seat.
“We are confident of a resounding victory in 11 constituencies, with our sights set on the 12th seat. The people’s trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains unwavering,” reiterated Chief Minister Sonowal.
The political fervour escalated further with a significant meeting between Chief Minister Sonowal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President JP Nadda on Thursday, signalling strategic discussions and alignments in preparation for the imminent electoral battle.
As the political narrative unfolds, all eyes are on Assam as the BJP and its allies strive to make significant strides in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
