Guwahati: In view of the ensuing flood and rainy season in the state, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has instructed all landslide-prone districts to pre-identify and prepare safe shelters (relief camps) for the people vulnerable to landslides during the monsoon season.
The directive, issued on Thursday (May 23), aims to minimize potential loss of life from landslides during the upcoming flood and rainy season.
The ASDMA has issued official instructions to districts such as Cachar, Dima Hasao, Hailakandi, Kamrup, Kamrup Metro, Karbi Anglong, Sribhumi, and West Karbi Anglong.
These districts are tasked with immediately identifying landslide-prone areas and publicly notifying residents about the designated safe shelters.
ASDMA stated that “wide publicity” would help affected people easily locate and move to these safe shelters in the event of a landslide.

Taking into consideration the casualties from landslides in the past three years in Cachar, Dima Hasao, Kamrup Metro, and Sribhumi, Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, Chief Executive Officer of ASDMA, urged residents in highly vulnerable areas to voluntarily relocate to safer places of their choice during the rainy period.
He said this proactive measure is intended to significantly reduce their vulnerability to landslides.
