Guwahati: The Assam State Commission for Women (ASCW) has taken suo-motu cognizance of the alleged physical assault on an unidentified woman by one Victor Das.
A disturbing viral video showed him physically assaulting a woman.
In an official communication, the Commission expressed strong condemnation of the incident, terming it a “heinous act” and conveying deep concern over the matter.
“It has come to the attention of the Assam State Commission for Women through various media and social media reports about the physical assault of an unidentified woman by Victor Das,” it stated.
Emphasizing the seriousness of the matter, the Commission stated that such incidents warrant immediate attention and intervention from the authorities concerned.
A suo-motu case (ASCW/SM/01/2025) has been formally registered by the Commission in connection with the incident.
In its directive, the ASCW has instructed relevant law enforcement and administrative bodies to initiate a comprehensive enquiry into the allegations.
The Commission has also directed the submission of a detailed enquiry report along with an action-taken report to its office within 30 days from the receipt of its letter.
The incident has triggered massive outrage online, prompting users to demand swift legal action.

Notably, an FIR has been registered against Victor Das with Dispur Police Station by Bir Lachit Sena, a regional group of Assam, over the physical assault on the woman.
Social media continues to erupt with condemnation, as users across platforms demand Victor Das’s immediate arrest and a thorough investigation into the incident.
