Sabina Teronpi has been recognised for her expertise in traditional weaving techniques unique to the Karbi community. Her designs, deeply influenced by the tribe’s cultural motifs, have played a significant role in promoting ethnic textiles on national platforms.

Payeng, a resident of Mohkhuti village in Majuli, has been honoured for his handwoven creations of the Miching tribe, known as ‘Gadu’ or ‘Mirizim’.

Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita said, “Majuli and Karbi Anglong Shine at the National Handicrafts Awards! Shri Bapukan Payeng from Majuli (Mirizim Textiles) and Smt. Sabina Teronpi from Karbi (Saphee Lanphee), along with 46 skilled artisans from across the country, have been honoured with the National Handicrafts Awards by the Honourable President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji.”

“The vision of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji to empower the artisans of Bharat and provide them with the recognition they deserve is yielding fruitful results, along with the hard work of Union Textiles Minister Shri @girirajsinghbjp Ji,” he added.
