GUWAHATI: In an acknowledgment of academic excellence and dedication to the Russian language and literature, Prof. Kandarpa Das, Vice Chancellor of Girijananda Chowdhury University, has been honoured with the coveted Pushkin Medal for 2023.
The accolade, presented by the International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature (MAPRYAL), recognises Prof. Das’s relentless pursuit of academic excellence and his dedication in fostering deeper connections between India and Russia through language and literature.
The award ceremony, held in Saint Petersburg, Russia recently, was graced by Vladimir Ilich Tolstoy, the President of MAPRYAL and the grandson of the legendary Russian writer Lev Tolstoy. Prof.
Das shared this momentous occasion with fellow laureates hailing from a diverse array of countries including India, Argentina, Iran, Romania, Czech Republic, Turkey, Armenia, Nigeria, Tunisia, Bulgaria, and Brazil.
A distinguished alumnus of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Moscow State University, Prof. Das’s academic journey is decorated with numerous accolades. A notable feather in his cap was the Fulbright Nehru fellowship he received in 2015.

The Pushkin Medal, named in honour of the iconic Russian writer and poet, Alexander Pushkin, is a state decoration of the Russian Federation.
