Guwahati: Aaranyak, a premier biodiversity conservation organization, recently conducted a one-day teacher’s orientation training program as part of the Wipro-earthian Sustainability Education Program, in partnership with Samagra Siksha Assam. The training took place in Assam’s Kamrup (Metro) district.
The program, held at the Administrative Building of Aaranyak, witnessed the participation of 31 teachers representing 24 different schools from the district.
The pivotal role educators will play in Wipro’s sustainability initiatives within educational institutions was the core discussion of the program.
The program was graced by Mridusmrita Devi, Head of Operations of Aaranyak; Bobby Nath, Senior Manager, Administration of Aaranyak; Ashish Bipin Shah of Wipro-earthian; Dr Dipankar Lahkar, Senior Manager, Tiger Research and Conservation Division of Aaranyak; and Achitra Borgohain, Founder & CEO of Binbag (E-waste management company).
The insights shared by Dr Lahkar on biodiversity documentation and multidisciplinary conservation strategies provided a comprehensive approach to sustainability education.
Borgohain’s expertise in e-waste management provided valuable insights into the challenges and protocols associated with e-waste disposal, particularly in Assam.
Acquainting the participants with the eco-box concept and Binbag’s mission to promote a circular economy for e-waste, Borgohain offered practical solutions to address e-waste issues and encourage recycling.
Borgohain’s presentation helped participants understand how to reintegrate secondary resources into the manufacturing supply chain, contributing to a more sustainable future.
These discussions will not only enhance the teachers’ understanding but also equip them with the knowledge to implement effective sustainability practices in their schools.
Educators like Binita Barman Dutta and Dolly Das of New Guwahati Adarsha High School and T.C. Govt. Girls H.S. School, Kamrup shared their experiences to inspire and motivate others.
Jayanta Kumar Pathak, Senior Manager; Dr. Banasree Sharma, Assistant Manager; and Tikendrajit Gogoi, Project Officer of the Environment Education & Capacity Building Division led the entire program.
They began by presenting Aaranyak’s overview and strategic roadmap for sustainability education, emphasizing both theoretical and practical aspects. This provided participants with a strong foundation for understanding and implementing sustainable practices.

Detailed elaborations on technical aspects helped in the crucial understanding of the practical applications, which are essential for creating a comprehensive educational experience.
This hands-on approach with the inclusion of games, interactive activities, and report preparation made the learning process engaging and effective.
At the conclusion of the program on September 13, a set of three booklets provided by Wipro-earthian was distributed to all participating schools to support their sustainability education initiatives.
