Guwahati: In a tribute to Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika, over 7,000 singers performed his iconic song, “Manuhe Manuhor Babe”, on Tuesday in Howly town in Assam’s Barpeta district.
This powerful mass performance served as a strong reminder of his lasting legacy, marking a significant event in the lead-up to the music maestro’s birth centenary celebrations.
Taking to X, Assam Chief Minister Bhupen Hazarika said, “7,000 singers, one song, a tribute to THE LEGEND. In Assam’s Howly, 7000 singers performed the timeless classic, Manuhe Manuhor Babe of Bhupen Da as a tribute to his legacy.”
“As we get ready to celebrate #BhupenDaAt100, people across the State are contributing in their own ways,” CM Sarma said.
His song, “Manuhe Manuhor Babe,” written in Assamese, has long been celebrated as an anthem of humanism, calling on people to treat each other with dignity and compassion.
The tribute in Howly perfectly embodied this message, with thousands of voices blending in harmony to honour his vision.
The Assam government is organizing a grand celebration to mark the 100th birth anniversary of Xudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, a multi-faceted genius, who was not only a musician but a lyricist and poet, an academician and a filmmaker of repute – all rolled into one.
Hazarika, the doyen of Assamese culture, has made immense contributions to Indian music and culture. Known as the Bard of Brahmaputra, his work has inspired generations across India and beyond.

The inaugural ceremony of the yearlong celebration of the birth anniversary of Bhupen Hazarika will be held on September 8, 2025, at the Veterinary Science College Playground, Khanapara, Guwahati. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will grace the occasion as the chief guest.
