Guwahati: With security measures being stepped up ahead of Republic Day 2026, the Indian Army conducted a Joint Counter-Drone Capsule at Tinsukia in Upper Assam to strengthen preparedness against emerging aerial threats and enhance coordination among multiple security agencies.
The specialised drill was organised by the Indian Army, with the Red Shield Gunners conducting the exercise under the aegis of Spear Corps.
Personnel from several civil and central security agencies participated, including the Assam Police, Central Reserve Police Force, Central Industrial Security Force and officials from Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
Officials said the exercise aimed to bolster joint planning, response mechanisms and operational coordination in view of the growing misuse of drones for surveillance, smuggling and potential sabotage.
With drones increasingly posing a security challenge during major national events, the capsule focused on developing a shared operational understanding and improving real-time response capabilities across agencies.
The programme included practical demonstrations on the detection, identification and neutralisation of hostile drones, along with structured interactions to familiarise participants with standard operating procedures and inter-agency communication protocols.
Emphasis was placed on rapid decision-making, coordinated action and seamless information-sharing during potential contingencies.
According to officials, the exercise significantly improved situational awareness and reinforced the ability of participating agencies to operate in an integrated manner.

An official said such joint capsules help bridge operational gaps, align procedures and ensure a unified response to dynamic and evolving threats.
The drill also highlighted a broader whole-of-nation approach to security, combining military expertise with civil and industrial stakeholders to safeguard critical infrastructure and public events.
With Assam set to host multiple Republic Day-related activities and witness increased public movement during the period, the exercise was described as a timely step to reinforce preventive and responsive security measures.
Authorities said similar joint initiatives would continue in the coming weeks to ensure robust and layered security arrangements across the region.
