GUWAHATI: In a bid to enhance transparency in examinations, the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) has announced the introduction of carbon copy OMR sheets for the upcoming Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examination 2023.
Scheduled for March 17, this marks the first time such a system will be implemented by the commission.
According to a local daily, candidates appearing for the examination will now have the opportunity to take home a carbon copy of their OMR sheet.
This initiative aims to provide greater transparency and accountability in the examination process.
The preliminary exam is set to take place across 32 district headquarters in the state, with a staggering 67,252 candidates vying for 235 coveted positions.
These positions include roles such as ACS, APS, Superintendent of Taxes, Superintendent of Excise, AFS, BDO, ARCS, and AAO, among others.

BB Dev Choudhury, Chairman of APSC, highlighted the importance of ensuring a fair and transparent examination process.
As a precautionary measure, nodal officers have been instructed to impose Section 144 of the CrPC within 100 meters of the examination centres, he told the daily.
This move comes in the wake of recent developments concerning the APSC, particularly the suspension of 21 high-ranked government officers implicated in a cash-for-job scam in December last year.
Among the suspended officers are 11 Assam Police Service officers and four Assam Civil Service officers, namely Akashee Duwarah, Dhrubajyoti Hatibaruah, Hitesh Mazumdar, and Dhiraj Kumar Jain.
These individuals are facing serious allegations of irregularities during the APSC Combined Competitive Examination conducted in 2013.
The cash-for-job scam, which unfolded during the 2013 and 2014 recruitment processes, has sent shockwaves through Assam’s administrative circles, highlighting the need for stringent measures to uphold the integrity of recruitment procedures.
