Guwahati: In a significant step toward enhancing workplace safety for its on-field personnel, the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) has launched the ‘SafeLine’ initiative in collaboration with its AMISP partner, IntelliSmart Infrastructure.

The campaign aims to provide comprehensive safety training to thousands of linemen across the state to prevent electrical accidents and promote a culture of safety-first in daily operations.

The initiative was formally launched by APDCL Chairman Syedain Abbasi in the presence of IntelliSmart Managing Director and CEO Anil Rawal and other senior officials.

The launch marks the beginning of a sustained safety awareness campaign that will include monthly training sessions and on-site demonstrations by trained safety professionals.

“Safety is not a one-time event—it must be a habit embedded in our operations,” said Syedain Abbasi.

“At APDCL, we are committed to ensuring that our linemen receive regular training and awareness to protect their lives while they perform their duties. We are proud of how far APDCL has come in terms of operational efficiency, consumer service, and now, safety leadership.”

The inaugural training session commenced on Thursday across seven sub-divisions—Jagiroad, Jhargaon, Charaibahi, Laharighat, Morigaon, Mazbat, and Kalaigaon—benefiting around 150 linemen.

Under the campaign, such training will be held on the 6th of every month until the end of the current calendar year.

The sessions are being delivered by safety experts from IntelliSmart, reinforcing the message that “life is priceless and safety cannot be compromised.”

IntelliSmart MD & CEO Anil Rawal emphasized the company’s commitment to frontline safety, stating, “SafeLine reflects our core values. Linemen are the backbone of electricity distribution, and their safety is fundamental to our operations.”

Field personnel have responded positively to the initiative. Dadhiram Saikia, a lineman from the Jhargaon sub-division, praised the campaign, saying, “The training was very informative and reiterated the importance of always prioritizing safety. We are encouraged by the APDCL chairman’s personal involvement.”

IntelliSmart, which is currently deploying smart electricity meters across Assam, has already installed over 9 lakh meters.

The company continues to work closely with APDCL to modernise the state’s power infrastructure and ensure a smarter, safer, and more sustainable energy ecosystem.
