Guwahati: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) North Eastern Region (NER) celebrated its Annual Award Ceremony on Sunday, at Kalakshetra, Guwahati, recognising exceptional contributions and achievements by cadets, educational institutions, and NCC staff from the seven northeastern states during the year 2024-25.
The event was attended by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, as chief guest, with the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Nandita Garlosa, presenting awards.
The ceremony highlighted the dedication and achievements of NCC cadets, Associate NCC Officers (ANOs), Girls Cadet Instructors (GCIs), and principals of outstanding educational institutions.
Acharya commended the awardees for their commitment and excellence, emphasising the role of NCC in fostering leadership, discipline, and patriotism among youth.
He remarked that the awardees embodied the values that NCC strives to instill in its members.
The ceremony featured the presentation of 55 awards, acknowledging individuals and institutions that significantly enhanced the image of NCC over the past year.
Jorhat NCC Group was recognised as the Best NCC Group of the North Eastern Region, while the 5 Assam Battalion NCC received the Best NCC Unit award.
ANO Lt. Moitree Hazarika from South Point School, Guwahati, was named Best ANO (Female), and Capt. J.P. Uppadhya from Meghalaya was declared Best ANO (Male).
SUO Veerjyoti Sharma from Silchar was honoured as Best Cadet (Male), and SUO Bhawana Thapa was named Best Cadet (Female).
Senior Army dignitaries, including Major General Gagan Deep, Sena Medal, ADG NCC NER, and NCC Group Commanders, attended the event, underscoring its significance.

Major General Gagan Deep praised the awardees for their exceptional efforts and acknowledged the role of educational institutions in shaping future leaders.
He emphasised NCC’s mission to nurture disciplined, service-oriented youth committed to the nation’s progress.
