Dergaon (Assam): Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the first phase of the revamped Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Assam’s Golaghat district on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in modernising police training infrastructure.
Accompanied by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Shah also laid the foundation stone for the second phase of the project.
During his visit, Shah was briefed on the academy’s facilities by DGP Harmeet Singh and toured the premises, which feature state-of-the-art amenities for police training.
Spread across 340 acres, the academy is being upgraded in two phases with a total estimated cost of Rs. 1,024 crore.
The Rs. 167.4-crore first phase includes a five-story building equipped with smart classrooms, a weapon training stimulator, research labs, administrative offices, a library, seminar rooms, a modern parade ground, and a museum.
“The revamped infrastructure is designed to integrate theoretical and practical police training seamlessly,” an official stated.
The weapon training stimulator, a key feature, enables safe and cost-effective combat training, allowing trainees to hone their skills using a variety of firearms.
The smart classrooms boast interactive digital boards and personal computers, enhancing the learning experience for recruits.
