GUWAHATI: An American tourist, Berry Thompson, lost her life after a truck collided with her motorcycle in Assam’s Hojai district on Saturday, according to a senior police official.
Berry Thompson was on a motorcycle expedition through the Northeast region of India, exploring its diverse landscapes and culture.
On the day of the incident, she was traveling from Silchar to Tezpur when the accident occurred.
Hojai Superintendent of Police Saurabh Gupta revealed that the collision took place when Thompson was attempting to make a turn on the road.
“Preliminary findings suggest there may have been a miscalculation during the turn, leading to the unfortunate crash. She sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment,” Gupta explained.
The incident has prompted swift action from local authorities.

The truck involved in the collision has been seized, and its driver has been detained for questioning to determine the exact circumstances leading to the accident.
The US consulate has been informed about the incident, and all necessary procedures are being followed to assist in the repatriation of Thompson’s remains.
Her body has been placed at the Nagaon Medical College and Hospital, awaiting further arrangements.
This tragic incident highlights the need for increased road safety awareness and caution, especially for travellers navigating unfamiliar terrains.
