Guwahati: To ensure the safety of devotees during the upcoming annual Ambubachi Mahayog at Maa Kamakhya temple, Assam Police on Monday announced a series of measures for the massive spiritual gathering.
The Kamakhya Temple, perched on Nilachal Hills, is set to welcome lakhs of pilgrims from both India and abroad during the four-day religious observance, taking place from June 22 to 25.
For the four-day-long event, the gates of the temple will be closed from 2.56 pm on June 22 to the morning hours of June 26.
City police commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta said in the landslide vulnerable zones, police officers and State Disaster Rescue Force (SDRF) personnel would be stationed to ensure the safety of devotees.
Mahanta added that the road leading to the temple will remain accessible to devotees from 5 am to 6 pm from June 22-25. He said entry would be prohibited beyond official hours for safety and crowd control.
Only ferry vehicles designated for on-duty officials of essential services will be allowed to ply to and from the temple.
Senior citizens and infants are advised to avoid visiting during the peak days due to overcrowding and unpredictable weather.
The Pandu–Kamakhya route will remain closed to the general public and VIPs and will be accessible strictly for emergencies.
From June 22 to June 27, no VIP or special darshan will be facilitated.
To maintain the sanctity of the Mahayog, loudspeakers, music, and processions are strictly prohibited within and around the temple premises.
Darshan will resume on June 26. Devotees must assemble at Bongshi Bagaan Ground, where they will be guided in a queue by temple volunteers. No shoes or sandals will be allowed beyond the Kamakhya foothills. Devotees should plan accordingly.
Guwahati Traffic Police will soon issue a separate notification regarding traffic diversions and parking arrangements. For any assistance, devotees can dial the emergency helpline number 112.
