Guwahati: The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has constituted a 12-member Election Management Committee to oversee and coordinate all activities related to the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.
According to a party notification signed by General Secretary Jagadish Bhuyan, the party’s two permanent chief advisers, Basanta Deka and Dr. Krishna Gopal Bhattacharyya, will serve as advisers to the committee.
Chandrakanta Das has been appointed as the chairman of the committee, while Kamal Nayan Choudhury will serve as the vice-chairman. Shamsher Singh has been named the chief convenor.
The other convenors of the committee are Chittaranjan Basumatary, Raju Phukan, Amrit Khataniar, Ziaur Rahman, Girin Talukdar, Amitabh Borthakur and Nikhil Bhattacharyya.
The committee will be responsible for managing and coordinating the party’s election-related preparations and activities ahead of the Assembly polls.

AJP President Lurinjyoti Gogoi, on Saturday, emphasized that the key objective of the opposition alliance is to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He urged party leaders and prospective candidates to put aside personal emotions and ego in pursuit of this broader political goal.
Speaking to the media on preparations for the upcoming elections, Gogoi said that discussions on seat-sharing among alliance partners have already been finalised in New Delhi and the party will soon announce the names of its candidates.
Gogoi highlighted that the alliance is focused on unseating the BJP while strengthening coordination among its partners ahead of the polls.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) today announced that the Assembly elections in Assam will be held on April 9, with the results scheduled to be declared on May 4.
