Guwahati: AIIMS Guwahati has been accredited as an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) provider, becoming the first medical institution in the Northeast to receive the recognition and marking a significant step in strengthening trauma care in the region.
The institute conducted its inaugural ATLS provider course from December 12 to 14, introducing structured, standardised trauma education aimed at improving emergency response and patient survival outcomes.
Senior ATLS faculty members from across the country participated in the three-day programme, contributing their expertise to the training initiative.

According to an official release, the accreditation underscores the importance of uniform trauma management protocols, with particular emphasis on timely and effective intervention during the critical “golden hour” following injury.
Each ATLS course at AIIMS Guwahati accommodates 16 participants and follows a rigorous format, comprising two days of intensive hands-on training and classroom sessions, followed by a formal assessment on the third day, in strict adherence to ATLS guidelines.
The institute said the initiative reflects its commitment to building trauma care capacity across the Northeast, with sustained ATLS training expected to enhance emergency preparedness, improve patient outcomes and reduce trauma-related mortality in the region.
