GUWAHATI: Aaranyak, in collaboration with Chandrasingh Rongpi Memorial High School, has organized a successful one-day food processing training program at Chandrasing Rongpi village in Assam’s Karbi Anglong.
The training program, held on September 4, aimed to equip local women with the skills to process food products for commercial purposes from readily available raw materials and provide alternative livelihood options.
Altogether 20 women from the Kohora and Diring River Basins participated in the comprehensive training, which covered topics like food safety, local produce identification, preservation techniques, value-added product development, and packaging.
The training focused on locally available produce and traditional knowledge to ensure relevance and sustainability.
The training sessions were coordinated by Mina Tokbipi and Larbin Timungpi, who shared their expertise in food processing.
Joshna Terangpi of Aaranyak also shared various techniques and processes for the value addition of farm products.
The program taught participants the steps and processes involved in making three common value-added products such as pickles, jam, and chili sauce.
The training has empowered the women to convert local resources into valuable products, creating a sustainable source of income.
It has also equipped them with the business acumen to market and sell their products effectively.
Participants expressed their gratitude to Aaranyak for the opportunity and the valuable skills they gained. They believe the training will significantly benefit their households and the local economy.
“We would love to join such programs again to acquire new knowledge. This is a huge benefit for our household and will help boost our local economy,” Merina Kramsapi, a participant from Sarbura Singnar village, said.
