Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Wednesday lauded the role of Assam Police in maintaining law and order, as the force marked its 75th Assam Police Day with a ceremonial parade at the 1st Assam Commando Battalion in Mandakata.
Extending his greetings to officers, personnel and their families on the platinum jubilee, Acharya said the day was not only a celebration but also a reaffirmation of the force’s commitment to public safety, justice and service.
He took the salute at the parade and praised the “precision, discipline and coordination” of the jawans, calling it a reflection of their courage and training.
The Governor paid tribute to police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty and acknowledged the sacrifices of their families.
“The peace and security ensured by Assam Police are the foundation of the state’s growth and prosperity,” he said, while stressing the need to remain vigilant against emerging threats such as cybercrime, drug trafficking, border challenges and communal tensions.
Underscoring the importance of public trust, Acharya noted that stronger cooperation between citizens and the police would strengthen internal security.
He highlighted the force’s efforts in combating drug abuse, human trafficking and environmental crimes, and praised its citizen-first and people-centric approach.
Calling for a future-ready police force, the Governor urged personnel to embrace technology while remaining ethically grounded and sensitive to the needs of vulnerable groups.

He reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of SMART policing—strategic, meticulous, adaptable, reliable and transparent—and said Assam Police had aligned well with this framework.
Quoting the words of Ahom general Lachit Borphukan, “Dekhotkoi Mumai Dangor Nohoy,” Acharya said the spirit of service and sacrifice continues to resonate through the work of Assam Police.
Despite heavy rains, the parade and Guard of Honour went ahead, with Acharya commending the resilience and commitment of the participating officers.
Director General of Police Harmeet Singh and other senior officers were also present at the event.
