Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that 52 railway stations across the state will receive new train stoppages, providing a boost to rail connectivity.
CM Sarma said the decision was taken after persistent public demands, seeking improved rail connectivity for their respective regions.
During a late-night live interaction on Tuesday, CM Sarma said, “We have been getting numerous representations from the public seeking train halts at different stations across Assam. After examining these requests, we have decided to provide 52 new stoppages at stations across the state to enhance rail connectivity for commuters.”
The newly sanctioned stoppages will be introduced from an early convenient date and will remain under review, with continuation contingent on passenger response and operational feasibility.
Local MLAs will visit the designated stations on Thursday to inspect arrangements and formally inaugurate the new stoppages.
Railway authorities have been directed to closely monitor ticket sales at the concerned stations and ensure extensive publicity of the new halts. The communication has been marked “most urgent,” underscoring the priority attached to the initiative.
Among the key changes, Barpeta Road will receive a stoppage for the Vande Bharat Express, while Diphu and Furkating will see the Rajdhani Express halt at their stations, a development expected to significantly improve connectivity in the areas.
