Guwahati: Doctors at Peerless Hospital Guwahati have successfully carried out a complex revision joint replacement surgery on a 43-year-old woman who was suffering from implant failure following a previously performed bilateral total hip arthroplasty.
The procedure was conducted under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) scheme, hospital officials said.
The patient had been facing severe pain and mobility issues due to complications arising from the earlier implant.
Following a detailed clinical evaluation, the medical team recommended a revision procedure to correct the implant failure and restore functional stability.
The surgery was performed by orthopaedic specialist Dr Rituraj Neog and was completed without complications.
Hospital authorities said the patient showed marked improvement after the procedure and regained stability within three days.
She is expected to gradually resume normal daily activities in the coming weeks with continued rehabilitation and follow-up care.
Speaking on the case, Dr Neog said revision joint replacement procedures are technically demanding and require precise planning and execution.
He added that with appropriate surgical techniques and post-operative care, patients can regain mobility and return to normal functional activity.
Doctors at the hospital also stressed the importance of timely intervention in implant failure cases to prevent further complications and ensure better long-term outcomes, noting that such procedures require specialised expertise and careful post-operative management.
Commenting on the hospital’s approach to patient care, CEO Dr Gautam Kumar Das said recovery does not end with surgery alone and must be supported by structured rehabilitation, pain management and continuity of care.
He said the hospital’s focus remains on ensuring comprehensive treatment and recovery support across all stages of care.
Hospital officials also highlighted that the facility provides integrated geriatric care services, focusing on chronic disease management, mobility support, rehabilitation, cognitive health and preventive care, aimed at improving independence and quality of life for elderly patients through personalised treatment and long-term health management.
