GUWAHATI: A 38-year-old man has been arrested for having alleged unnatural sex with the corpse of a minor girl in Karimganj, recently.
The accused, identified as Anuj Rabidad, reportedly had intercourse with the dead body of the girl in the morgue of Karimganj Civil Hospital.
According to reports in the local press, the body of the minor girl was brought to the morgue for autopsy after she allegedly committed suicide on the evening of April 5.
Police had said that the minor had taken the extreme step by hanging herself near her home.
Rabidad, who works as a sweeper in the hospital, was arrested after a doctor, who had come to the hospital for conducting autopsy on Saturday, found injury marks on the dead girl’s private parts.
Suspecting necrophilia, the doctor immediately informed the hospital management leading to Rabidad’s arrest.
During questioning by the police, the accused, who is the brother of the morgue’s guard, confessed of committing the horrendous act.
Meanwhile, the family of the minor girl has demanded strict action against Rabidad and have filed a case against him.
Later the body was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for autopsy.
This is, however, is not the first instance when reports of nacrophlia have emerged from Karimganj.
Earlier in September 2023, three people, including a railway employee, were arrested on for allegedly strangling a teenage girl to death and then engaging in sexual acts with the body in the district.
According to police sources, the minor’s body was found beside the Karimganj town bypass on September 9, the same day she was murdered.
Later, a post-mortem examination confirmed necrophilia and a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered.
