Chennai: Three teenagers from Assam were arrested looting gold and diamond worth Rs 1.5 crore from a jewellery shop.
The three teenagers from Assam allegedly climbed a pipe at the back of the building and reached the terrace, broke open the door to the lift and jumped over the lift cabin and entered the second floor of the building.
The three boys used their shirts to collect the jewellery and fled the building through the same route.
They tried to break open the locker, and this triggered an alarm, which alerted the owner of the jewellery shop, police said.
Selaiyur police nabbed the accused within three hours of the theft with the help of CCTV footage. All the three teenagers from Assam used to work at a juice shop near the jewellery shop.
Police nabbed the three boys from their rented house and recovered bundles of jewellery.
Chennai Police have informed the Assam Police about the theft and are trying to reach out to the family members of the three boys, sources said.
The boys were sent to the Government Observation Home at Tambaram.
