Guwahati: Twenty-one illegal migrants from Bangladesh, including several children, were pushed back across the border from Assam in the early hours of Sunday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The operation was carried out around 12:30 am from the Sribhumi district, with local police conducting the late-night action.
In a post on X, Sarma confirmed the development, praising the district police for what he described as swift and vigilant enforcement.

He said the migrants were apprehended, documented and sent back, adding that the operation took place while most people were asleep, highlighting what he termed the police force’s dedication to duty.

Photographs shared by the Chief Minister showed that at least seven of those sent back were children.
The latest pushback is part of the Assam government’s intensified drive against illegal migration, with authorities continuing coordinated operations along the state’s international border to prevent infiltration and enforce deportation of undocumented foreign nationals.
