The Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC)-151 for NCC cadets, organised by the 60 Assam Girls Battalion NCC and other units under the NCC Directorate NER, Shillong, commenced at SaruSajai Stadium, Guwahati on December 9.
The 10-day camp, which runs until December 18, brings together approximately 275 cadets from around 30 schools, colleges, and universities across Guwahati and nearby areas.
The camp aims to foster leadership, discipline, and a sense of national pride among the cadets, who are students from classes 9 to the 3rd year of graduation.
Under the guidance of Camp Commandant Col. Ajay Kumar Sharma, the cadets are being introduced to a regimented way of life, with a focus on military drills, firing, first aid, community living, and character-building activities.
The training schedule includes a variety of competitions, such as volleyball, debate, painting, elocution, firing, tug-of-war, and drill exercises, designed to challenge the cadets and enhance their teamwork and physical endurance.
The camp also serves as an eligibility criterion for the ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ certificate examinations for the cadets.
In addition to the hands-on training, cadets will attend several guest lectures.
Experts will discuss topics such as “How to Be a Good Citizen of India,” “Know Your Army,” and “Traffic Management.”
Representatives from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and NEDFi, along with former NCC cadets, will also deliver lectures on soft skills and personal development.
On December 11, Brig. Ajit Kumar Borah, VSM, Group Commander of NCC Group Headquarters, Guwahati, visited the camp to inspect the administration and training schedules.
He interacted with the cadets and motivated them to uphold the values of discipline and sincerity in their lives.
As the camp progresses, the cadets are expected to gain invaluable skills and memories, not only enhancing their physical and mental capabilities but also instilling qualities of camaraderie, service, and leadership.
The CATC at SaruSajai Stadium is poised to be an enriching and transformative experience for all the participants, empowering them to become leaders of tomorrow.
