Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government has reconstituted the State Women Commission, appointing Yalem Taga Burang as its new chairperson.
The announcement was made through an official notification issued by the Department of Women and Child Development, marking the formation of the commission’s seventh body.
The notification, in accordance with Section 5(1) of the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) Act, 2002, and its subsequent amendment in 2005, also revealed the complete composition of the commission.
Tsering Dolma has been named as the vice-chairperson, while Kipa Kaya Rughu, Kotu Bui, Aben Mije, and Techi Nikhi Yab will serve as members.
The notification outlined that the duties, powers, and service conditions of the newly appointed chairperson and members will be governed by the provisions of the APSCW Act, the amendment made in 2005, and the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (Service Conditions and Tenure of Chairperson and Members) Rules, 2004.

The commission plays a pivotal role in addressing issues related to women’s rights, safety, and empowerment in the state.
Its reconstitution is seen as a crucial step towards strengthening the advocacy and implementation of gender-sensitive policies in Arunachal Pradesh.
The appointment of Burang, a well-regarded figure known for her commitment to women’s welfare, has been welcomed by various stakeholders and women’s groups across the state.
