Itanagar: Two Class 12 students from a government school in Arunachal Pradesh’s remote Namsai district have earned an invitation to attend the Republic Day parade in New Delhi as special guests after excelling in a national-level innovation challenge on waste management.
Nang Sujata Jenow and Kusum Kumari Mishra, science students of the Government Higher Secondary School in Chongkham, were selected following their standout performance in the School Innovation Marathon (SIM), a nationwide initiative under the Atal Innovation Mission of NITI Aayog, an official statement said.
The competition, conducted online at the national level, focused on innovative solutions for managing plastic waste.
The students’ project impressed evaluators for its practical approach towards reducing plastic use and its emphasis on sustainable, science-based solutions.

Developed under the mentorship of their teacher, Moirangtham Surchand Singh, the project aligned closely with India’s broader sustainability and environmental goals.
Officials said the students demonstrated a strong scientific temperament and a clear vision for a plastic-free future.
School principal Toni Pertin said the achievement brought recognition not only to the institution but also highlighted the potential of young innovators from remote regions.
He added that the success of the two students underscored the role of youth in driving India’s journey towards sustainability.
