Itanagar: An operation in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district led to the killing of three militants from the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-KYA) and the rescue of an abducted construction worker, officials reported on Monday.
The two workers had been kidnapped on April 25 from the Pangchao area in Longding.
Following intelligence inputs, a joint operation involving the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and local police was launched on Sunday in a bid to track down the kidnappers.
The security forces engaged in a fierce firefight with the militants, resulting in the death of three NSCN-KYA cadres.
During the operation, four automatic weapons, ammunition, and other materials were recovered from the scene, according to a statement from Lt Col Amit Shukla, a defense spokesperson based in Nagaland.
One of the kidnapped workers was safely rescued, while efforts continue to locate the second missing person.
Longding Superintendent of Police, Dekio Gumja Tamin, confirmed the retrieval of the three militant bodies, which were later taken to Mon district in Nagaland for further investigation.
