Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh’s Agriculture and Allied Minister Gabriel D. Wangsu has called for transforming Tawang district into a hub for organic farming, highlighting its potential to set an example for the entire state.
Speaking at a review meeting with government departments in Tawang on Wednesday, Wangsu underscored the growing global demand for healthy, chemical-free food.
He emphasised that using fertilizers, chemicals, and pesticides would tarnish Tawang’s reputation, which is already associated with positive attributes.
According to an official statement released on Thursday, Wangsu shared his vision of making Tawang a role model for organic production.
He expressed optimism that other districts would be inspired to adopt similar practices.
The minister stressed the need for inter-departmental collaboration, active stakeholder engagement through workshops, and the preservation of local germplasm.
He also highlighted the importance of providing high-quality seeds, feeds, and breeds to farmers to bolster organic farming.
During the meeting, Wangsu reviewed ongoing projects and their financial status, commending officers for their efforts.
He emphasised the role of farmer-producer organizations and encouraged officials to motivate and assist local farmers in exploring innovative agricultural practices.
