Itanagar: The Centre for Mother Languages (RCML), under the Research Institute of World’s Ancient Traditions, Cultures and Heritage (RIWATCH), has wrapped up a crucial field study aimed at preserving the oral traditions and linguistic heritage of three indigenous tribes in Arunachal Pradesh.
The study, conducted from July 14 to 31, focused on the Sajolang (Miji) community in Bichom district, along with the Aka (Hrusso) and Sherdukpen tribes in West Kameng district.
Researchers collaborated closely with community elders, local speakers, and folklorists to document endangered folk narratives, oral histories, and linguistic patterns.
RCML said the initiative is part of a wider effort to revitalize and promote indigenous languages in the region.
One of the major outputs of the study will be a set of illustrated folktale books aimed at cultivating reading habits among younger generations and helping pass on traditional knowledge.

The documentation will also contribute to community-led education and heritage preservation projects.
In a statement, RCML extended its appreciation to several local bodies and community leaders for their support, including the Aka Shotuko-Kunu (ASK), All Sherdukpen Blu (ASB), Tukpen and Shergaon village councils, the Sajolang Indigenous Faith and Culture Preservation Society, and the Sajolang Elite Society.
Their hospitality and cooperation, the institute said, were instrumental in the success of the study.
