ITANAGAR: Pema Khandu took the oath as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh for the third consecutive term on Thursday.
The swearing-in ceremony was administered by Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik in the Dorjee Khandu State Convention Centre, Itanagar, in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president JP Nadda, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, among others.
Joining him in the new administration, MLA Chowna Mein was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister.
In a congratulatory message on social media, Mein lauded Khandu’s leadership, highlighting the significant progress and development the state has witnessed under his tenure.
“Under his leadership, Arunachal Pradesh has seen remarkable progress and development in various sectors, uplifting the lives of its citizens and paving the way for a brighter future…,” Mein wrote.
In addition to Khandu and Mein, ten others were sworn in as Cabinet ministers for the 8th Arunachal Pradesh Assembly.
Notably, Dasanglu Pul became the lone woman minister in the new cabinet, which includes eight fresh faces. Portfolios for the new ministers are expected to be allocated later in the day, with the first cabinet meeting of the new government scheduled to follow.
The path to Khandu’s third term was solidified on Wednesday when he was re-elected as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party in Arunachal Pradesh.
The BJP secured a decisive victory in the recent elections, winning 46 seats in the 60-member Arunachal Pradesh assembly.
Remarkably, the BJP won ten seats unopposed before the elections took place, highlighting their strong foothold in the state.
The assembly elections were held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections.
