Itanagar: The Indian Army organised the ‘Ziro Honour Run’ in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday to pay tribute to the heroes of the 1962 India-China war, with Governor Lieutenant General (Retired) K.T. Parnaik flagging off the event at Central Dree Ground in Ziro, Lower Subansiri district.
The governor described the run as a symbol of unity, endurance, and patriotic spirit, while remembering Rifleman Neelam Tebi, who lost his life during the 1962 conflict.
Addressing the youth, Parnaik encouraged aspiring athletes to aim for global excellence, citing India’s hosting of the 2030 Commonwealth Games and its ambitions for the 2036 Olympics.
Highlighting the importance of discipline, education, and healthy living, the governor urged collective action against social evils such as alcoholism and drug abuse.
He emphasised that sports instil resilience, humility, and courage, essential qualities for nation-building.
Parnaik also interacted with participants of the recently concluded Shaurya Motorcycle Rally, praising initiatives that strengthen civil-military relations.
He later presented medals and cheques to winners across multiple categories of the run.
Over 800 participants, including Army, Air Force, and Indo-Tibetan Border Police personnel, NCC cadets, students, and civilians from across the state and beyond, took part in the event. Nearly 100 women runners participated across the various categories.

The Ziro Honour Run, along with the Shaurya Motorcycle Rally, was held as a precursor to National Solidarity Day on October 20, honouring the armed forces and celebrating the spirit of national unity shown during the 1962 war.
The Army noted that the event not only commemorated soldiers’ sacrifice but also promoted patriotism, civil-military harmony, and tourism in the picturesque Ziro Valley.
