Itanagar: An NGO-led cleanliness cleared around 1,800 kg of waste from the Yagamso River during a clean-up drive along the Energy Park stretch on Saturday, officials said.
The waste removed from the river largely consisted of household plastic items and construction debris, underscoring the growing threat posed by improper waste disposal to urban water bodies.
Volunteers associated with the Youth Mission for Clean River (YMCR) carried out segregation of the waste on site to ensure eco-friendly disposal.
According to the organisers, plastic waste and construction materials were transported to designated dumping sites for further processing, while organic wet waste was composted in nearby pits to help enrich the soil naturally.

The drive also saw participation from members of the Nyishi Students’ Union of Rajiv Gandhi University.
Social media influencers Shiva Tells and Deju Bayor joined the initiative to amplify awareness about river conservation and responsible waste management.
