Itanagar: The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) is set to revolutionize Arunachal Pradesh‘s dairy industry by establishing ‘Milk Unions’ and a state-level ‘Milk Federation’ to promote the dairy sector.

This strategic move aims to unlock the region’s significant dairy potential and bring it up to speed with the nation’s “White Revolution 2.0” initiative.

Initially, five milk unions will be formed, corresponding to the state’s five major river basins. The first phase will focus on the Lohit River basin, encompassing Lohit, Namsai, and Lower Dibang Valley districts.

Roy, NDDB’s Kolkata regional head, announced this during a training session for enumerators and supervisors in Namsai’s Chowkham circle on Wednesday.

He said similar efforts will be made to form milk unions in Siang, Subansiri, Kameng and Tirap basins.

These individual milk unions will eventually converge to form a state-level ‘milk federation,’ which is expected to create new opportunities within the dairy sector and related activities.

Dr. D. Longri, Director of State Animal Husbandry, Veterinary, and Dairy Development, emphasized the urgency of the initial survey work and fixed the deadline for Lohit basin on July 31, 2025.

Longri expressed concern that some districts with high dairy potential have lagged in establishing dairy cooperative societies, thus hindering Arunachal Pradesh’s participation in the White Revolution 2.0.

As the formation of a milk union covering Lohit, Namsai and Lower Dibang Valley would be a guide for other unions, Longri urged district veterinary officers to prioritize the survey and ensure its timely completion.
