PAPUM PARE: The mysterious deaths of a large number of fish in the Poma River in Arunachal Pradesh’s Papum Pare district have sparked concern among the villagers.
The locals have reported finding dead fish in large numbers with red, ulcer-like wounds on their bodies in the river over the past month.
While the exact cause of the deaths is not yet known, bacterial infection is suspected to be the cause of the unnatural deaths of fish in the river.
Wildlife veterinarian Dr. Sorang Tadap suspected bacterial infection as a possible cause of the fish deaths but emphasized the need for expert analysis from the fisheries department before coming to any conclusion.
The incident, however, has caused widespread fear and uncertainty among residents as they are now hesitant to consume fish from the river.
“We are afraid of consumimg fish from the Poma River now,” said a villager.
