ITANAGAR: In a bid to acknowledge the exceptional contributions of Ziro community members, a grand felicitation event is scheduled at the scenic locale of Hong village on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2.
The ceremony will be graced by the presence of Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee, Mahatma Gandhi’s granddaughter. She will bestow the distinguished “Pride of Ziro” awards and also inaugurate the Mahatma Gandhi Centre.
Recipients of the “Pride of Ziro” awards, a symbol of their profound impact on the community, will be conferred with gold medals as acknowledgement of their distinguished services to the community. The occasion will further be marked by the presentation of the Administration Excellence Award-2023.
This year’s honourees span a spectrum of fields and services. They include cultural preservationist bureaucrat Lod Kojee; late Nani Challa, esteemed lyricist and teacher; Tailyang Moth, the visionary behind Mother’s Home shelter for orphans; celebrated footballer Lod Tabyo; artiste Hage Tade; activist Taku Chatung; and music magnate Bobby Hano.
The Administration Excellence Award will be conferred upon Bamin Nime, the Deputy Commissioner of Lower Subansiri, in appreciation of his commendable public-oriented initiatives.
To ensure a just and transparent selection process for these accolades, a panel of eminent figures was assembled, encompassing retired IAS officer HK Shalla, retired IFS officer Millo Tago, Prof Nani Bath, Dr Dani Duri, and Robin Hibu.
The soon-to-be-unveiled Mahatma Gandhi Centre will cater to community needs with an array of amenities, such as a library, digital career guidance centre, recreational space for children, citizen service desk, a dedicated hub for farmers’ sales, a panchayat ghar, and a health clinic.
The brainchild of Helping Hands, a reputed Delhi-based NGO, the event envisions to be a grand celebration and it will be graced by a host of dignitaries from the capital.
The event is aimed at spotlighting the luminaries of Ziro, reinforcing community ties, and motivating the youth to channel their energies towards positive societal transformation.
