ITANAGAR: Residents across several sectors, colonies, and villages in Itanagar and Naharlagun are grappling with an acute drinking water shortage after landslides severely damaged key water supply pipelines.
The disruption, caused by landslides along Zoo Road and Ganga Lake, inflicted extensive harm to vital 400 mm and 200 mm diameter pipelines on Monday night.
This catastrophe has crippled water supply to numerous areas including C Sector, Upper ESS, Gandhi Market, and several others, affecting daily life for thousands of residents.

According to a statement from Itanagar PHE&WS Division EE Yadar Ukap, efforts are underway with deployed personnel and equipment to restore water supply, but the process is anticipated to take up to a week.
To mitigate the crisis, departmental water tankers and private vehicles have been mobilised to distribute drinking water to the affected populace, ensuring essential needs are met amidst the turmoil.
In Naharlagun, similar disruptions have been reported in Polo Colony, Pachin, Nirjuli, and Lekhi urban areas, as well as Sood, Borum, Tarajuli villages, and Rakap Sanglum village.
AE Tamchi Syam of Naharlagun PHE&WS Subdivision reassured that normal water supply in these areas is expected to resume within the next two to three days.
