Itanagar: A cutting-edge space laboratory was inaugurated on Friday at Mechuka Government Higher Secondary School in Arunachal Pradesh’s Shi-Yomi district, marking a significant step toward advancing science education in one of the state’s most remote regions.
The facility, set up in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Muskaan Foundation, aims to give students practical exposure to space science and technology, encouraging curiosity, innovation, and scientific thinking among young learners.
Named Pasang Wangchuk Sona ISRO Space Laboratory in memory of Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona’s late father, the initiative honours his lifelong commitment to education.
“This is an emotional and proud moment for me,” Sona said while dedicating the lab to his father.

“This laboratory is not just an educational facility but a tribute to his unwavering belief in the power of education and curiosity. I hope it becomes a place where our children dream bigger, explore science fearlessly, and reach for the stars.”
The minister expressed confidence that the lab will serve as a hub of innovation, inspiring generations of students in Shi-Yomi to excel in science and technology.
The inauguration was attended by Shi-Yomi Deputy Commissioner Liyi Bagra, Deputy Director of School Education Tade Dabi, Muskaan Foundation COO Pranesh Debnath, along with students, teachers, and community leaders.
