Itanagar: Armed insurgents opened fire on an Assam Rifles Company Operating Base (COB) at Ranglum in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Monday morning, prompting a strong retaliatory response and the launch of a counter-operation, officials said.
According to defence sources, the firing began around 8.45 am, with the COB coming under attack from two directions.
Ranglum village is located close to the India–Myanmar border near Border Pillar No. 168, making the area strategically sensitive.
Assam Rifles personnel effectively responded to the attack, and operations to secure the area are currently underway.
Officials said no casualties have been reported from either side so far, while additional columns deployed in nearby areas have been placed on alert.

Security forces have launched cordon-and-search operations to track and neutralise the attackers, with reinforcements being rushed to the region to prevent further escalation.
Changlang Superintendent of Police Kirli Padu said a police team has been sent to the area to collect information.
However, he noted that detailed inputs from Assam Rifles were still awaited as the operation continued.
Authorities said the situation remains under close watch as joint security efforts continue in the border district.
